Documents to submit:

  • application form completely filled (be careful that your personal data appear correctly as are in your passport because they will be the form to appear in your transcripts and degree certificate)
  • copy of your passport
  • secondary high school reports relevant to your application, with special reference to mathematics, physics and English language. Notarized English translation
  • general certificate of your education - G.C.E. or any equivalent secondary high school diploma. Notarized English translation
  • one of the following documents of English language proficiency: a) TOEFL iBT test score of 90, or PBT score 550, b) Cambridge First Certificate "B", c) IELTS score of 5.0 (recommended for B.Sc., required for M.Sc. and Ph.D., and for B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Architecture programs)
  • official transcripts, degrees/diplomas of any higher education already completed. Notarized English translation
  • 4 recent photographs
  • curriculum vitae (autobiography/résumé)
  • two letters of recommendation (for M.Sc. and Ph.D. applications)
  • Study Plan (for Ph.D. applications only)

NOTE: Notarization is necessary for every school leaving document even if the original is in English. Notification of your acceptance / rejection will be sent to you after your complete application has been reviewed. All necessary further information will be attached to the letter of acceptance.

Tuition fees

All tuition fees must be paid prior to enrolment. At the time, you will need to present proof that you have paid your fee via bank transfer. In case of late or partial payment of tuition fees, the University reserves the right to refuse enrolment. Current tuition fees available here.

Enrolment

Registration period: from the middle to the end of August.

All accepted new students are expected to report to the Office of International Education to register.

All Students:

Register in the Office of International Education within 48 hours after your arrival in Budapest.

EU citizens:

You have to apply for a residence permit for study purpose in Hungary. Remember to present your EU Health Insurance Card at registration. More information and help is available during school registration.

For exchange Students:

All accepted new students are expected to report to the Office of International Education to register.

To Newly Enrolled Freshmen Only

PLACEMENT TESTS:

Before the registration week (the first week of September) future Architect students have to write placement tests in Mathematics, Physics and English and Freehand Drawing. Students passing the tests will receive confirmation of their acceptance in the first year of the B.Sc. programs. Students found to have inadequate skills in these subjects will be directed to the one year Preparatory Course before the B.Sc. programs.

An intensive preparatory course is offered for all in Mathematics and Physics instantly before the test.

Students who will not write the Placement Test for any reason (late arrival, etc.) until the starting of Registration week may only join the General Course of Architecture.

Student Card

As a BME student, after the successful registration you will get a Student Card (Diákigazolvány) which entitles its holder to enjoy a 50% discount on the Hungarian public transport. It can be used also for visiting some of the museums free of charge or with discount. There are also shops where you can get discount with a valid student card (like book stores, copy centres, cinemas, restaurants, etc.) Always ask on the spot, if you can get a discount. The card also serves as an authentication to use BME facilities.

How You Get Your Student Card

Students who stay one-year or shorter period are entitled to get temporary student card.

Students who stay longer than one year have to apply for permanent student card. Without student card application they are not entitled to get the temporary certificate.

First you will get a temporary student ID. Permanent student card is ready in a month. Temporary student IDs should be returned, when permanent ones are accessible. Permanent student IDs are valid for one semester only. For this reason it must be renewed at the beginning of each semester after having the tuition fees paid, and getting registered for the relevant semester. Student Cards may be renewed in the Students’ Office in Building K, ground floor for General Course students, first year and exchange students. About time and place of picking up the ID you will be informed in due course.

You will be informed more at the registration. You can require Student Card only after the registration.

The BME student card is valid only in Hungary. If you want to get an International Student Identity Card (ISIC), purchase it at ESN BME (Building K, 3 rd Floor, 83.).

 

 

 

Academic Calendar

A semester stands from 14 weeks term-time and 4 weeks exam time. From September to January and from February to June. The current AC is available here.

 

 

 

Orientation Program

Before the registration week (the first week of September) for all newly enrolled students (Pre-Engineering Course and General Course in Architecture, B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. as well as for exchange, study abroad and transfer students) an orientation program will be organised.

The orientation program includes introductory lectures, access to the Internet, a visit in the Library and a sightseeing tour.
